The Pembroke Beautification Committee is teaming up with the City of Pembroke to offer another year of Earth Week Contests!

Community Cleanup Contest

When: April 21-27th

How to Win: Register and document their cleanup activities by taking a photo and sending it to recreation@pembroke.ca between April 21 and 27 for a chance to win the grand prize! Residents can register and pick up their Community Cleanup kits at the City of Pembroke Parks and Recreation office, located at the Pembroke Memorial Centre or the Pembroke Public Library between April 14 and 23, 2025, while supplies last.

The Prize: The grand prize includes a rain barrel, donated by Mayor Gervais and Deputy Mayor Abdallah, a 12-pack of leaf and yard wash paper bags, a set of Fiskars shears and a mesh cover for yellow/blue bins.

Bonus: The first 100 people to register at the Parks & Recreation Department in the Pembroke Memorial Centre or at the Pembroke Library will receive a Community Cleanup Kit, including all the essentials, such as fabric gloves and instructions, along with a black garbage bag that can be disposed of during regular garbage collection days.

Kits will be available on April 14th.

Join us in making a positive impact on our community and the environment during Earth Week by participating in the Community Cleanup initiative!

School Contest

New this year, the Pembroke's Beautification and Climate Action Committee is inviting schools within the City to be part of our Earth Week celebration April 22nd through April 27th.  School classes can take on any of a variety of projects that will benefit the Earth, then tell us about their projects for a chance to win a pizza party, courtesy of Joe's Family Pizzeria.

Steps to Participate

  • choose an activity or project that will benefit or promote a healthy Earth,
  • work on your project and take photos during Earth Week April 22 - 27,
  • teachers submit their class project to the Pembroke Parks and Recreation Department at recreation@pembroke.ca with the following information:
    • school name and class
    • photos of the class at work on the project or activity
    • a brief description of your Earth Week project or activity
    • deadline for submission to Parks and Rec. is April 28th.

From the entries submitted, one class will be drawn to receive a pizza party donated by Joes Family Pizzeria.  Notification to the teacher will be made by Parks and Recreation staff.  The winning entry will be highlighted on our social media.

Safety Tips to Note

  • Take the collected garbage home with you and put it at the curb on your scheduled garbage pick-up day.
  • Work only in daylight hours and wear bright clothing so that you are visible to traffic.
  • Watch for traffic and stay well to the side of any road; watch the kids.
