The City of Pembroke has a number of committees and boards that serve the community and help advise and inform the mayor and council on matters that affect the public.
At the beginning of each term of council, appointments are made to the City’s committees and boards. Appointments are available for the following committees and boards which each report to the standing committee of council under which they are listed.

Accessibility Advisory Committee |
The City of Pembroke Accessibility Advisory Committee is legislated by the Province of Ontario under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (AODA) and recommends and advises council on matters to improve opportunities for persons with disabilities and to provide for involvement in the identification, removal, and prevention of barriers to full participation in the community. Pembroke Police Services Board |
The City of Pembroke has a contract with the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) to provide for adequate and effective policing. Pembroke Public Library Board |
With literacy and intellectual freedom as core principles, the purpose of the Pembroke Public Library Board is to set a strategic framework within which it can manage and control the provision of a comprehensive and efficient public library service that reflects the community’s unique needs (including French and special services as required). The board’s approach to undertaking this purpose will be in accordance with the Ontario Public Libraries Act and as further defined by the Pembroke Public Library strategic plan, City of Pembroke council by-laws/resolutions, all applicable legislation, and board policies. The Pembroke Climate Action Advisory Committee provides advice and recommendations to the City’s Operations Committee related to promoting the protection, maintenance, and awareness of the environment within the community and to provide advice concerning environmental and climate change policy, planning, and sustainability. Waste Management Public Liaison Committee |
Each partner municipality (City of Pembroke, Town of Petawawa, Township of Laurentian Valley, and Township of North Algona Wilberforce) appoints a member from the public who will liaise with other residents from their municipality on matters related to the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre. Civic Awards Committee |
The Civic Awards Committee is responsible for the development and oversight of the Civic and Youth Awards program. Consistent with our strategic plan, the City will recognize and celebrate leadership, personal civic commitment, and engagement in several aspects of community life. This committee provides advice and recommendations to Council on matters related to parks, open spaces, the waterfront, recreational facilities, and recreational programs that reflect the needs of the community and support and encourage an active healthy lifestyle. Community Improvement Panel |
The City of Pembroke’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is a tool that allows Council to direct funds and implement policy initiatives toward a specifically defined project area. Section 28 of the Planning Act gives municipalities the ability to prepare community improvement plans. The City of Pembroke’s Community Improvement Plan encourages rehabilitation initiatives and stimulates development. The Plan allows the City to provide tax assistance, grants, or loans to assist in the rehabilitation of lands and/or buildings within the City. The Diversity Advisory Committee provides advice and recommendations to the City’s Planning and Development Committee related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in Pembroke, and advises the City on actions that can be taken to ensure Pembroke is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive city for all. Emergency Management Program Committee |
The committee guides and oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of the City of Pembroke’s Emergency Management Program. The Committee recommends to council for approval of an emergency plan to provide the City with a strategy to protect the health, safety, welfare, environment, and economic strength of residents, businesses, and visitors to Pembroke in accordance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and its regulations. Pembroke Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee |
The Pembroke Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee (PEDTAC) will provide advice and recommendations to the Planning and Development Committee of the City of Pembroke on matters relating to the attraction, development, and retention of all business sectors within the municipality inclusive of manufacturing, commercial (personal services and retail), tourism, and home-based businesses. Planning Advisory and Adjustment Committee |
The Planning Advisory and Adjustment Committee is delegated by the Council of the City of Pembroke under the provisions of the Ontario Planning Act to hold public hearings to make decisions on applications submitted to the City’s Planning, Building and By-law Department for minor variances and severances and provides recommendations on rezoning applications and official plan amendments. The Planning Advisory and Adjustment Committee for the 2018-2022 term is:

Citizen involvement in local government is an essential part of the democratic process and there are many ways in which you can voice your concerns and become involved. Regular committee meetings and meetings of council are open to the public and are held at 6:00 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of the month (excluding July and August) in Council Chambers at City Hall.
