The City of Pembroke is proud to recognize and celebrate leadership, civic commitment, and engagement in civic life, volunteerism, and other aspects that contribute to a strong, vibrant community. The Civic and Youth Awards honour individuals who demonstrate outstanding contributions and accomplishments that help shape the City of Pembroke. These individuals serve as inspiring examples of dedication, compassion, and community spirit.

Civic Awards
The City of Pembroke Civic Awards celebrate the dedication and impact of passionate volunteers who help shape our community. Recipients in each of the six categories are honoured with the iconic Pembroke Sundial Trophy at the annual Civic and Youth Awards — a symbol of how their contributions are as essential and timeless as the act of telling time itself.
Civic Award Categories |
Civic PridePresented to an individual or group for showing leadership in fundraising and promoting the wellness of others. The fundraising must be a benefit to residents while promoting a leadership role in fundraising and encouraging other groups within the city. Arts and CulturePresented to an individual or group demonstrating exceptional achievement in the arts (dance, writing, singing, music, public speaking, etc.). Consideration is given to the accomplishment in various areas or promotion of arts and culture within the city. Good SamaritanPresented to an individual or group having concern for or helping to improve the happiness and welfare of others within the city. Consideration will be given to type and nature of support, length of time, and how many individuals were benefited within the city. Community ServicePresented to an individual or group that has demonstrated outstanding volunteerism within the community. Consideration will be given to the length of service, contribution, leadership, impact on the community in making Pembroke a better place to live, and passion about protecting/conserving the environment/involvement with an environmental project within the city. Outstanding SeniorPresented to an individual that must be at least 65 years of age and have made the City of Pembroke a better place to live. The contribution can be in many different fields such as the arts, literature, community service, volunteerism, education, fitness and sport, or humanitarian activities. Spirit of SportPresented to an individual or group that demonstrates the love of the game, such as a fan, coach, or volunteer. |
Civic Award Eligibility |
Nominees must be a resident of the City of Pembroke, a ratepayer of the City of Pembroke or a volunteer group operating within the City of Pembroke. The Civic Awards Committee may choose to honour non-City of Pembroke residents with strong ties to volunteerism in our City.
As much as we appreciate what they do for the community, For-Profit organizations will not be considered for the Civic Awards. Nominators and nominees cannot be members of the same household. |

Youth Awards
The City of Pembroke is also proud to recognize youth in our community who demonstrate leadership, civic commitment, and a dedication to making a positive impact. Through the Youth Awards, these outstanding young individuals are celebrated for their contributions and presented with a $300 bursary and a Certificate of Merit at the Annual Civic & Youth Awards Ceremony.

Personal CourageA role model for others and a person who maintains high ethical standards in difficult situations. Someone who might disregard their own personal safety or comfort to help another. Arts & LiteratureEnriching others through creativity, skills, and originality in such activities as music, dance, acting, and the visual arts. LeadershipDemonstrating leadership, marked determination, creativity and a degree of achievement. Young AthletesIt does not have to be the first person across the finish line or the gold medalist, rather the recipient of the award will demonstrate skills, devotion, sportsmanship, and class under pressure. Community ContributionsImproving the community through action, education, and service. It may be the young advocate or volunteer that goes the distance to make the world a better place. This is also about citizenship, inspiration, diversity, and leadership. |
Youth Award Eligibility |
In order to be eligible, a nominee must be a resident of the City of Pembroke or a dependent of a ratepayer of the City of Pembroke and must be 19 years of age or under as of May 31, 2025. Nominations can come from teachers, friends, social/community workers and others. Nominators and nominees cannot be members of the same household. Organizations and individuals may nominate more than one young person. |
