Jim Sloan Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament
The City of Pembroke’s Parks & Recreation Department is proud to announce it has partnered with Bogie’s Bar yet again to host the Jim Sloan Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament. The tournament will be held at the Pembroke Memorial Centre on May 25th, 2024 at 9am.
Jim Sloan’s impact on the community cannot be overstated. He was instrumental in the establishment of Bogie’s Bar at the Pembroke Memorial Centre, served on numerous committees, helped to organize many community functions and causes, and when he wasn’t volunteering, served a long tenure with the Pembroke Police. Jim always wanted to recognize the work of others but never sought recognition himself. After a lengthy illness, Jim passed away in 2018 and left behind a remarkable legacy. There is no one more fitting to be the namesake of this tournament.
New this year the tournament will feature three main divisions, a junior division for those ages 7 to 12, intermediate division for those aged 13-15 and an open division for ages 16 and up. Each game will be twenty minutes of 4-on-4 plus goalies with a minimum of 5 players per team and a Maximum of 10 players total per team. Registration for open division is $130 per team, intermediate division is $105 per team and junior division is $80 per team. Deadline to pay is May 21st at 4pm. Teams must pay to play. Each team is guaranteed three games. Each team will be competing to win the Hockey Town Cup, celebrating Pembroke’s hockey history and heritage as well as a prize bag for each player on the winning team in each division.
We are pleased to announce that all proceeds from the tournament will go to BGC Pembroke to support local youth sports initiatives. Jim served on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Pembroke for years and always had a passion for local sports and the development of youth in athletics.
