The City of Pembroke, along with surroundings municipalities, provides a collection program providing regular garbage, container and paper recycling, and compost collection services to residential properties and to some multi-residential and commercial establishments.

Our 2025/2026 collection schedule is split into three different regions across Pembroke. The different regions have a designated day from Monday to Wednesday for collection. Find your location on the collection map to learn more about your collection date. The type of waste alternates weekly with the following two bins paired on the same day:

  • Green and blue bins
  • Garbage and yellow bins

Starting the first week of June and ending the last week in August, green bins will be picked up with every collection.

Residents can find out what goes in which bin with the sorting guide from the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre.

Put collection items out before 5 a.m. on the day of collection or the night before after 7 p.m. Please put your collection items and bins inside your driveway five feet back from the road or curb. Putting your bins five feet back is very important in the winter especially when its snows. Putting bins back five feet helps with snow removal and reduces the likelihood your bins will get damaged. Anything you put in green bins should be wrapped in newspaper to reduce the chance of the cart freezing. Balled up newspaper should be put on the grate in the cart and throughout the cart in layers.

Blue boxes/yellow bin/net recycling covers can be purchased at the City of Pembroke Operations Department at 460 River Rd. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The waste management by-law, can be viewed here and the accompanying amendment here.

Blue Bin, Green Bin, and Compost

Green bins and blue bins are picked up every second week as regular collection. In June, July, and August green bins will be picked up every week. Please look at the leaf and yard waste collection schedule before putting any extra bags out. Extra bags will not be picked up all year long.

Yellow Bin and Garbage

Yellow bins will only be collected if items are loose in yellow bins or other open top, reusable containers. Never use plastic grocery bags for recycling materials, or it will not be picked up. Plastic bags (bread, produce, outside milk bags, blue newspaper bags, and grocery/retail bags) must not be placed in the yellow bin but go in regular garbage. You are allowed four garbage bags or bins under 50 lbs (23 kg) each.

Large Item, Hazardous, and Electronic Waste
Large item collection is held in the spring (week of May 27th) and fall (week of September 9th). It is for large items only that would not typically not fit in regular garbage. Electronic waste (e-waste) & Hazardous or Special Waste (HSW) will be collected on May 11th at the Petawawa Civic Centre and June 1st at the Pembroke & Area Community Centre (Pem Ice 2). These wastes are accepted year round at the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre during regular operating hours. (no charge) E-Waste is also accepted curbside during large item collection.
Leaf and Yard Waste Collection
Leaf and yard waste special collection dates are held twice a year in the spring (week of May 6th and week of May 21st) and fall (weeks of October 15th, November 4th, and November 18th).
Christmas Tree Collection
Christmas tree collection occurs the week of January 6th, 2024 on your regular collection day. The collection is weather permitting and will be rescheduled if there is inclement weather.
