Although the City of Pembroke received a small amount of rain over the weekend, it was not enough to lessen the risk of wildfires. We will continue to minimize this risk by keeping the full ban on recreational fires in effect.
No open-air burning, including recreational fires, as outlined in By-law 2023-63 shall be permitted. All permits issued to City of Pembroke residents will continue to be suspended. This ban on recreational fires also encompasses the Riverside Park Campground, including the public fire pits located there.
CSA-approved propane and natural gas fired outdoor appliances may still be used BUT must be handled with extreme caution. If using “Cooking Appliances”, as outlined in By-law 2023-63, it is the responsibility of the owner/operator to attend, control and supervise the appliance at all times.
With the dry conditions continuing, Fire Chief Scott Selle asks that residents respect the ban and understand the dangers of burning during these extreme conditions. With the potential for more rain coming this week, conditions will continue to be monitored daily. The Pembroke Fire Department will continue to provide updates on the fire ban, and will release a statement once we feel it is safe enough to lift the fire ban.
There will be zero tolerance during this ban. To report open-air burning, call the Pembroke Fire Department at 613-735-6821 ext. 1201. This will result in a response by firefighters, extinguishment of the fire and fines for the individuals responsible. For more information on fines, please see the Recreational Open Air Burning By-law (By-Law 2023-63) on our By-laws page.
