The rainfall yesterday allows us to lift the fire ban currently on in the City of Pembroke. Conditions will continue to be monitored through the weekend. It will not take long for the vegetation to dry out again and we ask that you remain attentive if having a fire this weekend.
Recreational fires are regulated in the City of Pembroke through By-law 2023-63. All permits for recreational fires are issued by the City of Pembroke Fire Department. All residents who wish to have a recreational fire must undergo a site inspection by the PFD and purchase a permit. Those who do not follow By-law 2023-63 may be subject to fines and/or cost recovery.
CSA-approved propane and natural gas fired outdoor appliances are exempt under the by-law; however, they must be handled with extreme caution. If using these appliances or "Cooking Appliances", as outlined in By-law 2023-63, it is the responsibility of the owner/operator to attend, control and supervise the appliance at all times. If a response is required due to negligence when using these items, fines and/or cost recovery maybe applied.
Chief Selle asks that residents use caution and understand the dangers of burning. He would also like to remind all permit holders that fires are only permitted between the hours of 6 and 11 p.m. Burning outside of these times may result in permit withdrawal, fines, and/or cost recovery for response.
Please remember, during a fire ban, there is zero tolerance for non-compliance. For more information, please see the Recreational Open Air Burning By-law (By-Law 2023-63) on our By-laws page or call the Pembroke Fire Department at 613-735-6821 ext. 1201.
