The City of Pembroke started its preliminary street sweeping program on April 28, 2025.
The full street sweeping and sidewalk sweeping program on started this week and is running Monday to Friday on 16-hour shifts (weather dependent).
- Sweeping operations start from the centre of the city and move outward toward the east and west city limits beginning with priority streets and arterial routes and then followed by all residential streets.
- While the City does sweep some sidewalks and paved boulevards, residents are encouraged to:
- Sweep the sidewalk//boulevard in front of their home.
- Sweep the paved ends of their respective driveways to edge of road.
- Place sand along edge of paved road or into the concrete gutter for collection by City staff or the street sweeper.
- Rake the grass boulevard – sand can be left at edge of road and grass clippings placed in green bins.
- Grass clippings from spring lawn raking should be placed in green bins.
- Staff will pick up sand piles but will not pick up spring grass clippings left in piles.
These simple actions greatly improve efficiency of spring clean up and help prevent sand from entering our City storm water system helping protect our rivers and waterways.
Sharing the Road with the Street Sweeper:
The street sweeper is a slow-moving vehicle that may stop and start frequently during operations. Drivers are reminded to be patient, keep a safe distance, and only pass when it is safe to do so. Your cooperation helps ensure the safety of both operators and drivers while allowing the sweeper to work effectively.
Unfortunately, there will be some noise generated from the sweeping equipment during operation. The City apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
