By virtue of the power vested in me
I Do Hereby Declare
June 21, 2025
as
National Indigenous Peoples Day
in the City of Pembroke.
Whereas the Government of Canada acknowledges June as National Indigenous History Month, and June 21st as National Indigenous Peoples Day as a way to honour the history, heritage, and diversity of Indigenous peoples in Canada, as well as to recognize the strength of present-day Indigenous communities; and
Whereas The Indigenous peoples of Canada have made, and continue to make valuable contributions to Canadian society and it is considered appropriate that there be, in each year, a day to mark and celebrate these contributions and to recognize the different cultures of the Indigenous people of Canada; and
Whereas National Indigenous Peoples Day is a wonderful opportunity to become better acquainted with the cultural diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and to discover the unique accomplishments of Indigenous Peoples; and
Whereas the City of Pembroke is a community that celebrates its cultural diversity.
Therefore, be it resolved that I, Ron Gervais, Mayor of the City of Pembroke, do hereby proclaim June 21, 2025, as “National Indigenous Peoples Day” in the City of Pembroke and urge all residents to take this opportunity to celebrate and recognize the contributions of the Indigenous peoples to our communities and country.
