Residents of Pembroke,
I hope you have been enjoying a beautiful summer in the Heart of the Ottawa Valley. Our city and our region have so much to appreciate and celebrate. As you gather with family and friends on this last long weekend of the season, I encourage you to have fun but remain safe. Summer weekends traditionally lead to increased injuries and fatalities due to motor vehicle and boating accidents. With care and caution, we can all have a summer that is both exciting and safe.
I hope you had the chance to attend thrilling celebrations for Canada Day, the Pembroke Multicultural Festival, and Downtown Pembroke Buskerfest earlier this summer and have spent time at our scenic waterfront through programs such as Waterfront LIVE!, Movie Night in the Park, and Yoga in the Park.
This weekend will see Pembroke bustling with musical energy during the Old Time Fiddle and Step Dancing Championships August 30 and 31. Be sure to check out the amazing talent on display at Festival Hall for these championships, and I send out my best wishes to all the competitors.
This year, the Pembroke Horticultural Society is celebrating its 100th anniversary. We are all grateful for their dedication to Pembroke’s charm and natural landscape and congratulate them on this momentous occasion.
On a somber note, we lost a former mayor of Pembroke this week with the passing of Henry V. Brown. Mayor Brown was a dedicated public servant, and I express my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Finally, I’d like to wish everyone all the best as we settle into our routines of the fall. I encourage our residents and visitors to continue to explore in our parks, dine at our restaurants, support our businesses, and take in all that Pembroke has to offer.
Take care,
Mayor Ron Gervais
