The City of Pembroke is receiving $155,828 in provincial funding to bring new features to Waterfront Park.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault announced the funding on behalf of Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden at the waterfront July 9, as part of a total of $2 million in projects across the riding being funded through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.
“These investments go far beyond just dollars and cents,” MPP Denault said. “We all know that sport and recreation are about much more than just games. These locations that are receiving funding are where community is built and where memories are made.”
Pembroke’s project will enhance Waterfront Park through the creation of a trail hub at the Albert Street entrance to the park as well as other developments. This includes cycling infrastructure such as bike racks, repair tools, and air pumps, seating, a hydration station, wayfinding signage, and ATV access to the park.
“Waterfront Park is one of the City’s most valued and heavily-used recreation areas, serving as a vital space for both residents and visitors,” said Mayor Ron Gervais. “This funding aligns with the City's Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which identified the waterfront as a priority area for recreational development. The City’s project seeks to address the community’s evolving needs by upgrading key infrastructure along Algonquin Trail supporting the park’s long-term value for the community.”
The project must be completed by March 31, 2027. Work should start in the spring or early summer of 2026.
