Mayor Mike LeMay is happy to present the 2021 Downtown Pembroke Mayor’s Award to all members of the Pembroke Business Improvement Area.
“I send my congratulations to all downtown members for the resilience they have shown throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” he says. “The PBIA Mayor’s Award is about recognizing people who make exceptional contributions to the downtown community. This is why I have chosen all downtown businesses, organizations, and property owners as this year’s Mayor’s Award recipients.”
Each year, the Pembroke Business Improvement Area recognizes it members through an awards program. The Mayor’s Award has been part of the program since its inception to show the strong partnership between downtown and the City of Pembroke. Typically, the award is presented to an individual or business, but Mayor LeMay felt broader recognition was needed for 2021.
“COVID-19 has tested us in many ways,” he says. “Our businesses and organizations have had to face challenges we never thought we would: lockdowns, new and increased health and safety measures, and intensified labour shortages. But through it all, downtown has put the work in to survive and continue to serve this community. We have seen so much innovation from our business community. It has been amazing to witness.”
Mayor LeMay adds, “We know the pandemic is not yet over. There are continued struggles to come. But I am confident our downtown community will continue to pull together and show Pembroke its best.”
