The City of Pembroke is pleased to introduce the new director of the Parks and Recreation Department, Todd Francis.
Francis brings a wealth of experience in programming and operations in the recreation sphere to Pembroke.
He has held positions in the private and public sectors in Brantford, St. Catharine’s, Oakville, and most recently in the Northwest Territories, with increasing responsibility and leadership throughout his career.
“Todd is a great addition to our team,” says Mayor Mike LeMay. “His experience in running departments, leading staff, developing programming, and carrying out big projects is a great benefit and will help our Parks and Recreation Department to continue and improve the good work it does for our community.”
No stranger to hockey, Francis is also happy to be working in Hockey Town Canada. He started his career in hockey, playing in the Ontario Hockey League and International Hockey League, and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1983 35th overall. But he notes it was the job and the community that attracted him to Pembroke.
“It’s a beautiful place – close to a lot of amenities, but still has a small-town feel. That’s what I was looking for,” he says.
Francis is stepping into the role following the retirement of Ron Conroy, who finished his career with the City at the end of April after almost 33 years of service.
“This is a big transition for the department,” Francis says. “I will be able to bring in some of my experience but will still draw on Ron and his sense of the community.”
