Welcome to the City of Pembroke! We are excited to have you join our community.

Pembroke is home to 14,000 residents and welcomes thousands more daily as the hub of the region. The city offers a variety for you to explore and enjoy covering everything from shopping to dining to entertainment to community services.

Living in Pembroke

Pembroke offers a blend of urban access to services and amenities and rural access to space and nature. Below are highlights of key community features. You can find more detailed information on these highlights and more under the Living Here section of our main website.

Education

Pembroke is home to schools from grades kindergarten to 12 from the English Public, English Catholic, French Public, and French Catholic school boards. It is also home to Algonquin College’s Waterfront Campus, which sits on the shores of the Ottawa River at Pembroke’s waterfront.

Healthcare

Pembroke has an active physician community, many assisted living and long-term care facilities, and other specialized healthcare providers throughout the city to supply residents with all necessary services.

Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) provides acute services in emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, acute mental health, orthopaedics, and obstetrics. PRH has a full range of rehabilitation services, is the designated District Stroke Centre for our region, and provides community-based mental health services throughout Renfrew County. Chemotherapy, dialysis, and a variety of ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. PRH offers a full range of diagnostic services including computed tomography, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), nuclear medicine, and mammography.

Library

Pembroke Public Library is a community and cultural hub with a variety of services, programs, and resources. Located in the heart of downtown, visit the library to enjoy its collections, events, and support services.

Utilities

Water and Sewer

The City provides water and sewer services to properties in Pembroke. Bills are sent four times per year. For information on rates and payment, visit our Water and Sewer Services page.

Hydro

Locally-owned and operated distributor, Ottawa River Power, provides hydro in Pembroke.

When moving into Ottawa River Power’s service area, you need to fill out their Standard Supply Contract in order to have service supplied to your property. The form can be emailed, sent by mail, or dropped off in person to their offices at 283 Pembroke St. W.

Recreation in Pembroke

You can enjoy a wide variety of experiences in Pembroke when it comes to recreation and entertainment. Pembroke has a strong retail presence throughout the city, with major centres including Pembroke Mall, West End Plaza, and downtown Pembroke.

Pembroke features a variety of dining options for your breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack! There are dine-in and takeout options, plus patios across the city. Don't want to leave home or work? Many restaurants offer delivery or can be found on food delivery apps in the area, including Valley Eats, DoorDash, and Uber Eats.
